Stephen Hawking About GOD's Existence

Stephen Hawking is a brilliant scientist who is amongst a few who understand the conplexities of black hole behaviour. But, as a scientist, he would be the first to admit that he does not have the 'truth'; he is working from observation, hypothesis, theory building and further experimentation which may falsify or support his ideas.

What he is saying is that our universe can arise spontaneously from the laws of physics as we currently understand them, so there is no necessity to invoke a special creator which exists 'outside' those laws.

 

The domain of science can only work with ideas that are testable and falsifiable by experimentation. The idea of a special creator cannot be tested in that domain.

The concept of 'God' is a human construct that has emerged from our evolved ability to look out at the natural world and wonder about its construction and the mechanisms that drive natural events. Language has enabled us to share feelings of wonder about the world and speculate on the significance of human life and its origins. Some of these ideas have been formalised as religions which have spread as viral memes because they have conveyed survival value.

Science is the only way we can derive real knowledge about the natural world and our place in it. Religious faith simply confuses and divides.

I always thought it was a a fundamental law of physics that matter could not be created or destroyed. So where did the stuff that made the big bang actually come from? Believing in God does people good - and is not as far fetched as believing human beings cause weather

I would have to agree with Prof. Hawking on this. I'm an atheist, and scientist by training, and base my ideas about our place in the grand scheme of things on scientific process.

While faith (which is not the same as religion - no more than a tool for controlling the masses) can help people to live what they believe is a good life, it also hinders humanity's chance to discover what we really are. I'm of the mindset that were it not for religion we'd be leaps and bounds further in our understanding by now. If you live solely by faith you deprive yourself of finding out the origins of the universe and, consequently, the sentient race we belong to. Why is it better to say "I'm here because He decided I should be" rather than asking "Where did I come from and why am I here"?

The wonderful thing about science is that it's constantly evolving as new discoveries are made. It seems that the religious contingent is always reluctant to revise it's thinking, regardless of the evidence that presents itself. It's no wonder that atheists get frustrated with this way of thinking - I don't have anything against a person's right to belief, or to follow a religion, but I find it an afront that they are so arrogant as to ignore evidence and theories that can be tried and tested. Perhaps it's not the atheists who have closed minds; show us tangible and testable evidence of your own theory of the creation of the universe (your God) and like all good scientists we'll revise our ideas. Until you can do that please accept that your blind belief means nothing to us - we want facts not hearsay.

One thing that strikes me is that scientists have never provided a comprehensive or convincing theory about the origin of life or the Universe. Ask them what was before the "Big Bang" and they will tell you "nothing". So they expect us to believe that everything suddenly appeared out of nothing (magic?), but they ridicule people who prefer to believe in a supernatural being and a creative force. Evolution may have been part of that creation process but the questions about what life is go beyond the realms of biochemistry. Indeed, according to the laws of physics, chemistry, entropy, etc.. there seems no reason why life should exist at all. If we did come from random molecular collisions in the sea producing a mixture of successful and unsuccessful chemical concoctions, shouldn't we be seeing this process today?

Personally i don't care for any religious views on God or creation. They are just out of date.

However, i believe in the logic that one thing causes another and therefore something must have caused the first event in history. What that cause is I have no idea.

Reasons why I think Hawkins et al are just plain wrong, the following would have to occured by chance rather than design. The life cycle, the rock cycle, the orbit of the earth which sustains life, the elements of life all being in the same place at the same time in the right environment to create life. Then we have the proximity of the moon which provides the tides, the plants which provide our food and oxygen. The proximity of the sun, not too close not too far.

Did your intelligent designer occur by chance? If you believe the world is to complex to come about by chance, then the entity that was capable of making it must be pretty complex too.

Nope, Hawkings is absolutely right when he says a godlike entity is not necessary to explain the universe. It goes like this: if you say god created the universe then the question "who or what created" god will always pop up, this goes on perpetually until you say "god is eternal", which would mean the laws of physics can also be eternal, making god redundant, or until you admit the universe doesn't need a specific "beginning" since time can be bend, even without divine intervention. So god is not just a useless explanation, it's not even a valid explanation to begin with.

Of course the real answer, if we're ever gonna find it, will have something to do with the fact that time isn't strictly linear and has no fixed rate of change. This will again be fully consistent without god in it

What a pointless topic. Christians believe in God because they have faith in God, not because there is any scientific evidence for the existence of God.

A scientist pointing out that there is no God will make precisely zero difference to anyone.

Scientists are people.
Some time ago they were a sperm and an egg. But it now speaks with great authority. IE The vessel that is made says - the potter did not create me.

If we believe in that theory then there is little else to discuss.

However the main reason most eminent people (They get air time and reviews plus they are the most heard by the media) decry creation it is because they wish to divorce themselves from God the creator.

Hence they have no need of creation and can completely justify any theory that fits their thoughts or mind set because without a creator you can be what ever you think.

Of course as soon as the word BIBLE is mentioned you are thought of as "behind the times of modern thinking mankind".

I wonder how many people reading this article allow the possibility that God has a purpose? Ask any J.W what Gods Kingdom is and how they can prove it to be true.
Sadly people want something more than listening to the creators view.

But if a man speaks gobble-de-gook. Then they think that is worth discussing.

True today's church and religion in general is found wanting.
But dare we stop and think - if all this we see and experience in our daily lives is just by chance and not design are we missing out on the real reason of the earth and all its beauty.

Remove man from this planet and it is perfect.

If the universe did create itself and there is no God, then there is no purpose to life so I could go out tommorow and kill someone, then kill myself and get away with it scott free? And i know thats wrong because there is a sense of justice in the world.

I'm sorry but I had to write a responce to this, the bit I do not understand about some religious people (not all, my Mum is religious and does not hold the above view) is that you need a God to be a good person. Why? I see God as palusible but there is meaning to my life and I am perfectally capable of distinquishing right from wrong, in fact in general I think I am a very good person who goes out of my way to help and be nice to people. As far as I can see it, if you say that there is no purpose to life if there is no God, then are you saying the point of your life on Earth is so you can die and go to heaven? If you do not believe in an afterlife then you have to make the most of this one.

As to the original question, by the theory of Occum's razor, it seems most likely that there is no God, anything that could create something as complex as the universe would have to itself be infinatly complex. At a stretch I could believe that the universe is the result of some superior race mastering how to create a big bang and setting our universe into motion, but from then on they would have no control. Sounds far fetch, but no more so than a God, we ourselves are getting a better and better understanding of quantum physics and it is not completely implausible that one day we would be able to create a singularity

You cannot create something out of nothing. Something ignited the big bang.

Hawkings is saying there is no God, so therefore, as Hawkings is generally accepted as one of the most intelligent humans of modern times, he then assuming that he is one of the most intelligent beings in the known universe! This cannot be right, though he is of course very intelligent by our own standards.

I beleive there is a God, because otherwise, what is the point of our existence apart from a 9-to-5 job and then retiring and death?

Science only explains HOW things work. Religion explains the WHY things are the way they are.

Genesis describes evolution albeit very roughly (life in sea before land mammals) which at the time it was written could not have been known.

It defies the odds and if we understand God as impersonal, uninterested, cosmic intelligence, discernable in both the quanta of the micro-cosm and in its expressions as meaning in the macrocosm, we advance the understanding of God from a childish dependence towards a more philosophical maturity, recognizing that that probability as to the existence of evolving intelligences, more powerful than our own, does not make those intelligences into gods, and unlike our predecessors physical cosmology, psychology and philosophy have contributed to a maturity that is not so easily deceived and has a chance of species survival due to that very fact. Sorry but I have always thought Hawkins is a bit of an oddity and unlike other points of view I am firmly of the belief that a higher body/being had a hand in the creation of the universe. It is far too complex and diverse to have been an accident or evolvement. Still I guess God loves Hawkin even if I find him somewhat odd. Does he cry out to God if he hurts or is frightened? Two days back that is 21st July 2011 they discovered a new particle (Not Higgs Boson) - Xi-sub-b (baryon)

Its components are an up quark, a down quark, and a "strange" quark, which is a heavier variant of the down quark. A normal neutron, which doesn't typically disintegrate in an instant, is made up of two down quarks and an up quark.

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has picked up tantalising fluctuations which might - or might not - be hints of the sought-after Higgs boson particle.

Either way, if the sub-atomic particle exists it is running out of places to hide, says the head of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (Cern), which runs the LHC.
He told BBC News the collider had now ruled out more of the "mass range" where the Higgs might be.
The new results are based on analyses of data, gathered as the vast machine smashes beams of protons together at close to light speeds.

One of their primary goals is to search for hints of the Higgs, which is the last missing piece in the Standard Model - the most widely accepted theory of particle physics.

Without the Higgs, physicists cannot explain why particles have mass. But despite the best efforts of scientists working on both sides of the Atlantic to detect it experimentally, the boson remains a theoretical sub-atomic particle.

The Large Hadron Collider is a vast machine built in an underground tunnel that runs in a circle for 27km under the French-Swiss border.
It accelerates two beams of proton particles at light speed around the circular tunnel and smashes them together at selected collision points around the underground ring. By looking at what is produced in these particle collisions, physicists should be able to shed further light on the nature of the cosmos

Where can be God Present

Where God Lives

It is highly possible that there is supernatural power in the name of GOD.
As there are many theories that can predict presence of supernatural power.For e.g. Nature & Universe created in such a well balanced form that it looks that somebody created it.
Hisenberg's uncertainity principle describes presence of eletron everywhere in nucleus i.e even simultasneous presence.
Even smallest particles are runing in there orbit of nucleus. And the same thing happens in our solar system.
Therefore a possibility exists for parallel universe i.e presence of everthing everywhere in a different time dimensions.

May be possible that GOD lives in one of the parallel/alternative Universe, Where rules/laws of science works differently OR everything is controlled by GOD (Advanced Civilization.

Another possibility is a large Black Hole, Where even light is unable to move outside, And TIME/SPACE Twisted. And there can a possible ORBIT where gases etc. moving so fast i.e equivalent to Speed of Light.

In such ORBIT, Time has no effect.

OR In singularity i.e centre point of black hole where spece/time is twisted, And advanced civilization  can use it accordingly so that Time has no effetct.

In Hindu culture, I have read that Brahmaji's  short moment of time 5-10 minutes can be  thousand years for humans.

Einstein's said Time is travelling with different different speeds in Universe due to law of relativity.

And If We compare these statements, We found they are nearly same.

I read somewhere about Lord Shiva and his Trinetra to destroy Universe, And I can compare it with Quezar of Singularity in BlackHole. i.e When contraction of gravitational pull at the centre is so high then at such moment it releases gases with extreme velocity and it is so bright that it can't compare.

Therefore another possibility of GOD's living is inside BlackHole.

Nature is So balanced that it has reproduction of livingbeing system, You see GREEN colour tree/plants, and as per VIBGYOR, Green colour comes in middle, a pleasing colour to eyes.

How insects/animals have adaptability according to environment/enemy. Do they use science for there developments OR even they can change there skin colour/and special things.

If ReBirth cases are posssible then it means some supernatural things are possible in Universe.

Which has nothing to do with the physical body.

From Where We get emotions/instincts.

The heirs were among others his step daughter Margot and his two sons Hans Albert and Eduard. His whole written property was given to the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, where it is still to be seen today, in the Albert Einstein Archives.

Over the next seven days, Fermilab’s CDF and DZero collaborations and CERN’s ATLAS and CMS collaborations will announce their latest Higgs search results at the High-Energy Physics conference of the European Physical Society.

Scientists at Fermilab and CERN employ very similar methods to create the Higgs: accelerate particles to high energy using the world’s most powerful accelerators, the Tevatron (1 TeV beam energy) and the Large Hadron Collider (3.5 TeV), smash the particles together, and sift through the large number of new particles emerging from these collisions. But to find a Higgs particle among the many particles created, the teams of scientists are focusing on different signals (see below).

If the Higgs particle exists and has the properties predicted by the simplest Higgs model, named after Scottish physicist Peter Higgs, then the colliders at Fermilab and CERN already must have produced Higgs particles. But finding the tell-tale sign of a Higgs boson among all other particle signatures is like searching for a drop of ink in an ocean. Only if the accelerators produce more and more collisions do scientists stand a chance of finding enough evidence for the Higgs particle.

At Fermilab’s Tevatron, scientists attempt to produce Higgs particles by smashing together protons and antiprotons, composite particles that comprise elementary building blocks. When a proton and antiproton hit each other at high energy, scientists observe the collisions and interactions of these components, such as quarks, antiquarks and gluons. Those subatomic collisions transform energy into new particles that can be heavier than the protons themselves, as predicted by Einstein’s famous equation E=mc².

Tevatron scientists have carried out detailed simulations of such collisions and found that the best chance for producing, say, a 120-GeV Higgs boson at the Tevatron are quark-antiquark collisions that create a high-energy W boson (see graphic). This W boson has a chance to spend its extra energy to generate a short-lived Higgs boson. The W boson and the Higgs boson would then decay into lighter particles that can be caught and identified by the CDF and DZero particle detectors, which surround the two proton-antiproton collision points of the Tevatron.
According to the Standard Model, such a 120-GeV Higgs boson will decay 68 percent of the time into a bottom quark and anti-bottom quark. But other collision processes and particle decays also produce bottom and anti-bottom quarks. Identifying an excess of these particles due to the decay of the Higgs boson is the best chance for Tevatron scientists to discover or rule out a Standard Model Higgs.

Aliens could conceivably live on planets illuminated by the swirling mass of photons orbiting the singularity of a special type of black hole, according to a new theory.

Certain black holes are charged and rotate, and they possess a region past the event horizon — the point of no return — in which the fabric of spacetime appears normal again. This is called the inner Cauchy horizon.

 

If a charged, rotating black hole is big enough to weaken the tidal forces that exist beyond the event horizon, objects orbiting the singularity would neither fall toward the center nor pass through to an alternate universe. This is already an accepted theory for photons, which cosmologists say can survive in stable orbits at the Cauchy horizon

इंद्रदेव मेरा प्रिय मित्र था, शायद 20-25 वर्षो से प्रात:काल नित्य ही वह मुझे खोजने आता और मेरे साथ पटना तक सफर करता। उसके साथ एक लड़का प्राय: कई वर्षो तक रहता। दोनों आते तो मुझे अतिशय संतोष होता। उस समय मैं सिगरेट का आदी था। मेरे पॉकेट में रोज ही चार-पांच पैकेट भरे रहते। ट्रेन के टीटीई भी मेरे साथ बैठकर सिगरेट पीते, गप्पें किया करते। जान-पहचान घनिष्ठता में बदल गई थी। उनमें से कई मेरे ही स्कूल मोकामा घाट हाईस्कूल से इंट्रेंस और मैट्रिक पास हुए थे, इसलिए भी नजदीकी संबंध महसूस होता। कभी-कभी मैं कहता भी ‘आपकी डय़ूटी’ में बाधा हो जाती है, मेरे कारण।’ ‘नहीं-नहीं माइंड फ्रेश हो जाता है,’ वे कहते। उनमें से एक थे प्यारेलाल। मुझसे आठ क्लास सीनियर। कभी-कभी आते ही मेरे पास रखी किताब उठा लेते और एकाध पृष्ठ पढ़ लेते। लेकिन अगर वह किताब मेरे प्रिय विषय ज्योतिष की होती- अंग्रेजी या हिंदी की, नामी लेखकों की लिखी हुई, तो झटपट उसे सीट पर रखकर कहते, ‘बाप रे बाप! माथा खराब हो जाएगा मेरा। हमलोग हस्तरेखा विज्ञान, अंक ज्योतिष और कुंडली आदि की भी बातें करते। उसी समय किसी यात्री ने सलाह दी कि प्रत्यक्ष ज्ञान आपको करना चाहिए, वह सवरेत्तम होगा। अर्थात देवता आदि को प्रकट करें। हम लोग अलग-अलग तरह की बातें किया करते। उससे मेरा लगाव पहले दिनों से ही हो गया था। उन दिनों रेडियो, ट्रांजिस्टर, टेपरिकॉर्डर आदि का इतना प्रसार नहीं था। वे दोनों गाना गाने में उस्ताद की तरह ही थे। सिनेमा नहीं, लोकगीतों में। गर्मी के दिनों में भी जब वे दोनों गाते ‘उतरल इ अगहन क भोर हो भइया, उतरल इ अगहन क भोर। डोलिया में बइठल उ जे नयकी दुल्हनियां ढारे है टुटुआ भर लोर।’ तो लगता जैसे सचमुच ही अगहन की भोर का समां बंध गया हो। उसी की ठंडक वातावरण में व्याप्त हो गई हो। कुछ दिनों बाद दूसरा गायब हो गया। खैर, उस जलगोविन्द (बाढ़) के महंत के समीपी उस बेढ़ना गांव वाले से जब मैंने वह सुना तो उससे पूछा, ‘मुझे तो कभी यह राज मालूम नहीं हुआ?’ असल बात थी कि जब उस बेचारे को मेरे साहित्यिक जीवन का पता लगा तो उसने यह रहस्य कह दिया था। उसने कहा कि इंद्रदेव के पूर्वजन्म का भाई जब इसके घर आया था तो इलाके भर से लोगों की भीड़ इसके घर भरी रहती, इस ताज्जुब को देखने-जानने के लिए। खैर, इस सूचना और प्रेम के लिए मैंने उसे धन्यवाद दिया, कृतज्ञता प्रकट की। दूसरे दिन प्रात: इंद्रदेव से मेरी भेंट हुई तो मैंने बैठते-बैठते ही अचानक उससे पूछ लिया, ‘गणोश आजकल कहां है?’
इंद्रदेव चौंका। ‘कौन गणोश?’ उससे पूछा। ‘अरे, वही। आपके पूर्व जन्म का भाई गणोश।’
‘वह तो आजकल आता नहीं है। बहुत दिन हो गये।’
‘कभी चिट्ठी-पत्री भी होती है, आप दोनों में या नहीं?’
‘कई बार लिखा भी, पर वह जवाब देता नहीं है। इसलिए छोड़ दिया लिखना।’
‘आपने कभी उसका जिक्र मुझसे किया नहीं? इतने दिन हम लोग साथ रहे, तब भी?’
‘तु तो कभी पुछबे नै कैल्हो हल त की कहतियो हल?’
बाबू यमुना प्रसाद सिंह, मलाही (बाढ़) में होम्योपैथी के नामी डॉक्टर थे। उनका बड़ा लड़का था, मेरा यह मित्र इंद्रदेव और दूसरा इससे छोटा एक और। 1944 के हैजे की महामारी में वह चल बसा था। इसलिए दिमाग से हट गया था। इंद्रदेव उस दिन अपनी बहन की ससुराल चमका जा रहा था। नाव पर उसने देखा कि एक लड़का उसकी ओर लगातार ध्यानपूर्वक देख रहा है। इसने समझा कि बहन की ससुराल में कोई नाते में होगा। गंगा नदी पार होने पर इसने उतरकर उससे उसका परिचय पूछा, ‘आप कौन हैं?’‘चलिए अभी, उस स्कूल तक। वहीं बताऊंगा’। दियारे के पास उस स्कूल की उस दिन उस सूनी बिल्डिंग में लड़का इसे लिवा ले गया और सूने कमरे में पूछा,‘जानते हैं, मैं आपका छोटा भाई हूं- गणोश, जो हैजे में मर गया था?’
इंद्रदेव ठिठका। घबराया। फिर सोचकर पूछा, ‘कैसे मानूं? कैसे विश्वास करूं कि आप मेरे भाई हैं और हैजे में मर गये थे?’ लड़के ने बताया। अमुक दीदी मर गयी थी। अमुक बच गयी थी। इस प्रकार उसने पूरी-पूरी सभी घटनाएं बता दीं। अब इंद्रदेव को विश्वास हो गया और दोनों एक-दूसरे से लिपटकर खूब रोये। इंद्रदेव ने रोते-ही-रोते उसे अपने घर चलने का आग्रह किया तो उसने बताया कि उसके नए जन्म के दो भाई और हैं, जो उसे बाढ़ से यहां आने ही नहीं देते हैं। खैर, एक दिन निश्चित हुआ बाढ़ आने का। उस समय केवल एक ही गाड़ी मननपुर से बाढ़ आती थी- मुगलसराय पैसेंजर। उस दिन इस सूचना पर अति उत्सुक बाबू यमुना प्रसाद सिंह अपने बहुत-से लोगों के साथ बाढ़ स्टेशन आये और अलग-अलग रहकर गणोश की सूचनाओं की पुष्टि करने लगे। गाड़ी से उतरकर इंद्रदेव को देखते ही वह दौड़कर आया और प्लेटफॉर्म पर घू म-घूमकर अपने पिता आदि को पहचान लिया, पैर छूकर पण्राम किया। फिर उससे अपने घर चलने के लिए कहा गया। चला तो, लेकिन कुछ दूर जाकर कई सड़कों को देख घबरा गया। फिर बताने पर वह तेजी से चलकर अपने घर पहुंचा और भीतर जाकर मां-बहनों और दूसरे लोगों को पहचानकर नाम ले- लेकर पैर छू-छूकर पण्राम किया। सबों ने उसे सीने से लगाया और मिलकर सभी आनंद से भावविभोर होकर खूब रोये। फिर अपने खेत को पहचानने गणोश दौड़कर गया और वहां पूछा, ‘फलां भैया (हलवाहा) कहां है?’ अब सारी बातें स्पष्ट हो गयी थीं। अंत में तय हुआ कि गणोश बाढ़ में ही रहकर पढ़ाई पूरी करेगा। मननपुर (गणोश के पुनर्जन्म का गांव) में सूचना दे दी गयी। भाई भी आये और तय हुआ कि गणोश यहीं रहेगा। गणोश की पढ़ाई इस प्रकार बाढ़ में ही हुई और उसकी शादी भी। जब शादी में घूंघट देने की रस्म पूरी करने की बात हुई तो गणोश के आग्रह पर इंद्रदेव ने ही नयी दुल्हन को घूंघट दिया। गणोश विद्युत बोर्ड में क्लर्क हुआ और हजारीबाग प्रमंडल में पोस्टिंग हुई। जैसा कि प्राय: ही होता है गांववाले तो आपस में फूट डालने में ही प्रसन्नता का अनुभव करते हैं, सबों ने दोनों के कान भरे। इंद्रदेव से सब पूछते थे कि पैतृक धन के तो अब दो अधिकारी हो गये, आपके साथ गणोश भी? आखिर इंद्रदेव की बुद्धि में भी यह बात बैठ गयी और गणोश ने भी महसूस किया, वास्तव में बेघर होने का। धर्मशास्त्रों के अनुसार भी पूर्व जन्म का संबंध नहीं रहना चाहिए। इस जन्म में जो नया संबंध होता है, उसी को मान्यता दी गयी है। मैंने यह कहानी लिखी और एक दिन इंद्रदेव को दिखा दी। वह खूब हंसा और पूछा, ‘ई तो हम तोरा नै कहलियो हल, ई तू कैसे लिख देल्हू?’ ‘ले खनी’ जब चलती है तो वह सब के हृदय की बात पकड़ लेती है। सत्य भी यही था। गणोश फिर कभी-कभी ही, शायद ही आता। कई बार मैंने भी चिट्ठी लिखी पर, वह आया नहीं। आज मेरी सेवा से निवृत्त हुए 18 वर्ष हो गये हैं। पता नहीं, मित्र इंद्रदेव इस दुनिया में है भी या नहीं और उसके भाई गणोश भी, जो मृत्यु के छह वर्षो बाद सोलंकी राजपूत के घर मननपुर में प्राय: 30- 35 मील दूर जन्मा था, कहां है? मनुष्य के मन में स्मृतियां प्राय: ही आती रहती हैं। वहीं यह आज लिख दिया। बाढ़ स्टेशन के समीप का क्षेत्र अपने में कई पुरानी स्मृतियों को संजोये है। नालंदा विश्वविद्यालय को तहस-नहस कर जब मुहम्मद-बिन-वे-इख्तियार खिलजी यहां आया था, तो गंगा की बाढ़ देखकर तेजी से जाकर मुकाम लिया था, जिस स्थान वह, वही आज का मोकामा है। आज से प्राय: 80 वर्ष पहले इसी बेढ़ना गांव की ब्राह्मणी ने पति की मृत्यु पर गंगा में जाकर चिता पर अपना शरीर जला दिया था। उस स्थान का नाम सतीघाट है। परमानंद सिंह, पूर्व सचिव, हाथीदह, पटना

गंगेश्वरी/बुरावली। गंगेश्वरी क्षेत्र के गांव कसाईपुरा में छह वर्ष का बालक पुनर्जन्म की यादों को बता रहा है। दो वर्ष की उम्र से वह पूजा-पाठ में लगा है और हरिद्वार के पंचदशानन जूना अखाड़े के महाराज करणपुरी की सदस्यता भी ग्रहण कर चुका है। बच्चे को देखने वालों का तांता लगा हुआ है।
धन सिंह खडगवंशी का छह वर्षीय पुत्र लोकेश १० सितंबर वर्ष २००४ को पैदा हुआ था। परिजनों के मुताबिक पैदा होने के छह माह बाद ही उसने बोलना शुरू कर दिया। दो वर्ष की उम्र पूरी करते ही वह भक्ति में लीन हो गया। उसने परिजनों को बताया कि पूर्वजन्म में वह प्रभु का भक्त था और उसका नाम प्रकाश था। धन सिंह के मुताबिक ३ वर्ष की उम्र में लोकेश धूनी लगाकर तपस्या में लीन हो गया। कहने पर उसे हरिद्वार के कुंभ मेला लेकर गए, जहां पंचदनानन जूना अखाड़े के स्वामी करणपुरी व उनके शिष्य स्वामी फूलपुरी से दीक्षा ली। तीन भाईयों व दो बहनों से बड़ा लोकेश इसके बाद से गेरुए वस्त्र पहनकर तपस्पा में लीन रहता है। साधना में लीन छह वर्षीय बालक को देखने के लिए उसके घर पर भक्तों का तांता लगा रहता है। धन सिंह का कहना है कि प्रकाश उसके पिता थे और जब उनकी मौत हुई थी तो लोकेश मां के गर्भ में था। लोकेश वह सभी घटनाएं बताता है जो उसके पिता के जीवन में घटित हुई थीं।

खटीमा। भले ही विज्ञान पुनर्जन्म की बातों पर विश्वास न करता हो लेकिन यहां न्याय पंचायत झनकट में इस तरह का एक मामला प्रकाश में आया है। ‘मैं कुमरहा का राधे हूं...’ यह कहना है झनकट में रहने वाले चाल साल के हर्षित का। बालक बता रहा है कि अज्ञात कारण से हुई मौत के बाद उसका जन्म झनकट में हुआ है। बालक की बताई बातें सच होने पर उसके पिछले और इस जन्म के परिजन उसका पुनर्जन्म होना मान रहे हैं। हालांकि चिकित्सक पुनर्जन्म की अवधारणा को मनगढ़ंत बता रहे हैं।
नगर से लगे कुमरहा गांव निवासी राधे की 23 फरवरी 2007 में अज्ञात कारणों से मौत हो गई थी। उसकी पत्नी फूलमती को राधे ने स्वप्न में बताया था कि वह झनकट में जन्म लेगा। उसके बाद फूलमती ने झनकट में काफी तलाश की लेकिन उसे बच्चे की जानकारी नहीं मिली। 27 फरवरी 2007 को झनकट निवासी नरेंद्र और मिथलेश के घर जन्मे एक बालक ने जब आम बच्चों की अपेक्षा पहले बोलना शुरू किया तो उसने खुद को कुमरहा का राधे बताया।
हर्षित की बातों की सच्चाई जानने के लिए उसके वर्तमान माता-पिता करीब 15 दिन पूर्व उसे लेकर कुमरहा गांव पहुंचे। यहां पर हर्षित की राधे के परिजनों से मिलाने पर उसने पूर्वजन्म की अधिकांश बातें बता दीं। राधे की पत्नी फूलमती ने बताया कि हर्षित ने उसे एक दुकान होने, घर के आंगन के पास जामुन का पेड़ और उसकी मौत से जुड़ी बातें अक्षरश: बताईं। फूलमती को पूरा विश्वास है कि उसके पति ने दूसरा जन्म हर्षित के रूप में लिया है। इधर हर्षित की ताई प्रतिमा राणा भी कहती हैं कि हर्षित ने जब बोलना शुरू किया था तो उसे अपने पिछले जन्म से जुड़ी अधिकांश बातें याद थी लेकिन अब धीरे-धीरे वह सब भूलने लगा है। घर के लोग भी उसे वह सब बातें भूलने के लिए कहते हैं। उन्होंने बताया कि हर्षित की पूर्वजन्म की पत्नी और बच्चे यहां आते हैं लेकिन हर्षित पूर्व जन्म की पत्नी से अधिक बात नहीं करता अलबत्ता राधे के बच्चों से खेलता है। पुनर्जन्म को लेकर आनंद अस्पताल एंड रिसर्च सेंटर के मानसिक रोग विशेषज्ञ डा. एके सक्सेना कहते हैं कि पुनर्जन्म की बात करना मानसिक रोग की श्रेणी में आता है। उन्होंने कहा कि इस तरह के कई रोगी उनके पास आते हैं। कुछ लोग स्वयं को भगवान कहने लगते हैं। उन्होंने कहा कि पुनर्जन्म की अवधारणा ही गलत है।

आईआईटी में गुरुवार को शुरू हुई टेककृति का उद्घाटन करते हुए। सर्च फॉर एक्स्ट्रा टेरेस्ट्रियल इंटेलिजेंस के एक्जीक्यूटिव डायरेक्टर डॉ. एच. पॉल शुक ने कही। उन्होंने कहा कि दूसरे ग्रह के प्राणियों की मौजूदगी के कई प्रमाण मिले हैं, लेकिन इसके बारे में कोई विशेष जानकारी नहीं मिली है। इसके लिए शोध की जरूरत है। यह विज्ञान की सबसे रहस्यात्मक और आकर्षक खोज होगी। वैज्ञानिक अब पुनर्जन्म से लेकर कई रहस्य हल करने में जुटे हैं। उन्होंने गिटार के धुनों और लैपटाप के जरिये इस दुनिया से परे किसी दुनिया की मौजूदगी का भरोसा भी दिलाया।
नोबल विजेता प्रो. डगलस ओ'श्राफ ने छात्रों को विज्ञान की नयी चुनौतियों के बारे में बताया। उन्होंने कहा कि परमाणु से आगे की खोज शुरू हो गयी है। अब इसे मानवजीवन के लिए उपयोगिता पर जोर देना चाहिए। उन्होंने आईआईटी जैसे संस्थानों की उपयोगिता भी बतायी। आईआईटी के निदेशक प्रो संजय गोविंद धांडे ने कहा कि विज्ञान के जरिये मानव जीवन को नयी दिशा देनी है तो कड़ी मेहनत करें।
वीडियो कांफ्रेंसिंग से गुरुमंत्र : सर्न के डायरेक्टर जनरल सैफ डाइटर ह्यूअर ने विद्यार्थियों को वीडियो कान्फ्रेंसिंग के जरिये संबोधित किया। परमाणु से आगे के विज्ञान के बारे में बताया। मास्टर बिग एक्सपेरिमेंट ऑफ स्माल पार्टिकल के नाम से पहचान रखने वाले ह्यूंअर ने विज्ञान की सामाजिक चुनौतियों पर छात्रों को गुरुमंत्र दिये।

पुनर्जन्म लेने वाले बच्चे के बयानों से उन लोगों में हड़कंप मचा है, जिन्होंने पिछले जन्म में उसे कर्ज दिया था, लेकिन कर्ज अदा न करने पर उसकी हत्या कर दी थी। बच्चे के बयानों के अनुसार जब वह कर्ज चुकता नहीं कर पाया था तो उन लोगों ने उसे बुरी तरह से पीटकर घायल कर दिया था और रेलवे लाइन पर फेंक दिया था और गाड़ी तले कटने से उसकी मौत हो गई थी।

हालांकि पुलिस ने इस मौत के संदर्भ में सात वर्ष पूर्व कर्ज देने वाले फाइनेंसर व उसके कुछ साथियों पर मामला दर्ज कर किया था। जांच के पश्चात यह मामला रद कर दिया गया। लेकिन अब दोबारा जन्म लेकर बयान देने के बाद फाइनेंसर व उसके साथियों के होश उड़े हुए हैं। उन्हें लगने लगा है कि जो फंदा उनके गले से निकल गया था वो कहीं दोबारा न पड़ जाए।
गौर हो कि राजस्थान के हनुमानगढ़ जिले के गांव लीलांवाला निवासी अवतार सिंह (7) पुत्र चरण सिंह ने स्थानीय पुलिस को बताया था कि उसका पिछला जन्म अबोहर क्षेत्र के गांव राजांवाली में हुआ था। पिछले जन्म में उसका नाम सुभाष पुत्र फकीर चंद था। 15 अगस्त, 2004 को रुपयों के लेनदेन को लेकर कुछ लोगों ने उसकी हत्या कर दी थी। उसके बाद राजस्थान में जन्म लेने के बाद उसे पिछले जन्म की सारी बातें याद आने लगी। उसे अपने मां-बाप, भाई बहिन सब याद आ गए हैं। अब वो इस मामले में हत्यारों के विरुद्ध कार्रवाई करवाना चाहता है।

पिछले जन्म में हुई हत्या को लेकर कार्रवाई की मांग करने के मामले में पंजाब पुलिस को ऐसे तथ्यों की जरूरत है, जिनसे यह साबित हो सके कि उसकी हत्या की गई थी। अगर ऐसा नहीं होगा तो पुलिस द्वारा कोई कार्रवाई नहीं की जाएगी। उधर, तर्कशील सोसायटी के सदस्यों ने इसको झूठा करार दिया है।
जानकारी के अनुसार राजस्थान के हनुमानगढ़ जिले के गांव लीलांवाला निवासी सात वर्षीय बच्चे अवतार सिंह पुत्र चरण सिंह ने स्थानीय पुलिस को बताया कि उसका पिछला जन्म अबोहर क्षेत्र के गांव राजांवाली में हुआ था। पिछले जन्म में उसका नाम सुभाष पुत्र फकीर चंद था। पिछले जन्म में 15 अगस्त, 2004 को रुपयों के लेनदेन को लेकर कुछ लोगों ने उसकी हत्या कर दी थी। इसके बाद उसका राजस्थान में जन्म हो गया व धीरे-धीरे उसको पिछले जन्म की सारी बातें याद आने लगी। अब वो इस मामले में हत्यारों के विरुद्ध कार्रवाई करवाना चाहता है। सात वर्षीय यह बच्चा अपने पुनर्जन्म के माता-पिता व अन्य रिश्तेदारों की पहचान भी करता है।
इस मामले में जिला पुलिस कप्तान कौस्तुभ शर्मा ने बताया कि पुलिस कानून के अनुसार ऐसे तथ्यों पर कार्रवाई नहीं कर सकती। अगर इस मामले में बच्चा लिखित रूप से कोई शिकायत दर्ज करवाता है तो मामले की जांच करवाई जाएगी। अगर जांच के दौरान को गवाह या सबूत उनके हाथ लगता है तो कानून के अनुसार कार्रवाई होगी।
इस मामले में तर्कशील सोसायटी के स्थानीय अध्यक्ष गणपत राम ने बताया कि सोसायटी ऐसी बातों में कभी विश्वास नहीं करती। रविवार को जब वह अपने साथी भगवान दास व महेंद्र कुमार के साथ बच्चे व उसके तथाकथित पिछले जन्म के पिता व भाई से मिले तो उनको यह मामला संदिग्ध लगा, क्योंकि सात वर्षीय बच्चा अवतार अपने पिछले जन्म के माता-पिता भाई को तो जानता है और अपने कत्ल की बात करता है और किसी के बारे में कुछ नहीं बताता। सदस्यों ने जब उससे उसके मित्रों व गांव के अन्य लोगों के बारे में पूछा तो वह कुछ भी नहीं बता सका। वह अपने ससुराल पक्ष या उन दुकानदारों को भी नहीं पहचानता जिनके साथ मिलकर वह काम करता था।

हरिद्वार [नवीन पांडेय]। पुनर्जन्म में विश्वास नहीं करने वाले देश भी हिंदू संस्कारों को तेजी से आत्मसात करने लगे हैं। यही कारण है कि विलायती खून में अब हिंदू धार्मिक संस्कारों के प्रति श्रद्धा बढ़ रही है। आश्चर्य की बात यह है कि इजरायल जैसे कट्टर देश के नागरिकों का भी हिंदू संस्कारों में विश्वास बढ़ने लगा है। यूरोप के कई देशों के नागरिकों का पितृ विसर्जन, अस्थि विसर्जन, रुद्राभिषेक, मुंडन, गोदान करने के लिए तीर्थनगरी पहुंचने का सिलसिला जारी है।

पिछले चार वर्ष में तकरीबन 30 विदेशी नागरिकों की अस्थियों को गंगा में प्रवाहित किया जा चुका है। हरिद्वार आकर करीब चार सौ विदेशियों ने धार्मिक संस्कार संपन्न कराए हैं। यूं तो तीर्थनगरी हरिद्वार के प्रति विदेशियों का लगाव सदियों से रहा है। पहले भी वह इसे धार्मिक पर्यटन स्थल के रूप में देखते रहे, लेकिन बीते चार वर्ष में विदेशियों की सोच में काफी कुछ बदलाव आया है। विशेष तौर पर यूरोपीय देशों डेनमार्क, नार्वे, स्वीडन, फ्रांस, आस्ट्रिया, जर्मनी और इटली के लोग हरिद्वार में हरकी पैड़ी, कनखल सहित अन्य स्थानों पर धार्मिक संस्कार कराने के लिए यहां पहुंच रहे हैं। पुनर्जन्म में विश्वास नहीं रखने वाले विदेशी अब पितृ विसर्जन भी करने लगे हैं। गंगा में अस्थियां प्रवाहित कर स्वर्ग की बात को वह भी मानने लगे हैं। विदेश में मृत्यु होने पर उनकी अस्थियां जहाज से पार्सल कर यहां पंडितों को भेजी जाती हैं। यदि कोई विदेश में संकट में हो या बीमार हो तो उसकी जन्म तिथि और कुंडली मिलान कर यहां पर पूजा अर्चना भी की जाती है। पूजा के उपरांत पंडित प्रसाद को पार्सल करते हैं। प्राच्य विद्या सोसाइटी के निदेशक डा. प्रतीक मिश्रपुरी ने बताया कि उन्होंने अब तक 400 से अधिक विदेशियों के हरकी पैड़ी, कनखल सहित अन्य घाटों पर धार्मिक अनुष्ठान संपन्न कराए हैं।

किसी रहस्यमय मगर हकीकत वाली इस कहानी का पटाक्षेप हुआ मैनपुरी जिले के कस्बा बेवर स्थित दक्षिणी काजी टोला निवासी प्रमोद कुमार दुबे और कल्पना दुबे के घर से। 13 साल पहले 6 मार्च को जन्मे जुड़वां भाई-बहन अपने को पूर्व जन्म में एटा के ग्राम दहलई निवासी शाक्य जाति के सूरज पाल व उसकी पत्‍‌नी ममता बताते हैं। 13 साल की बेटी राधा तथा इतनी ही उम्र का बेटा भोले उर्फ विशाल अपने पूर्व जन्म को पूरी तरह से भूल नहीं पाये हैं। कल्पना ने बताया कि 6 मार्च 1998 को जुड़वा पैदा हुये बच्चों ने जब बैठना सीखा, तभी से विशेष संकेत देना शुरू कर दिया था। मसलन पास ही बैठना कोई चीज खिलाओ तो पहले राधा भोले को खिलाती थी। जब बोलना शुरू किया तो पुनर्जन्म की बात कर सबको आश्चर्य में डाल दिया।
जुड़वा यूं बयां करते हैं कहानी
विशाल कहता है कि उसने अपनी गर्भवती पत्‍‌नी ममता के पीठ में डंडा मार दिया था, जिससे उसकी मृत्यु हो गई। ममता की मृत्यु के ठीक 7 घंटे बाद पुलिस के भय से उसने गांव के बाहर नीम के पेड़ पर फांसी लगा ली थी। दुबे दंपती ने इनकी बातों की हकीकत जानने को तहकीकात की तो सच्चाई निकली।
यादें ताजा होते ही सिहर उठा बालकराम
एटा: अलीगंज विकास खण्ड क्षेत्र के ग्राम दहेलिया में रविवार को बेटे और बहू की असमय हुई मौत की दास्तां सुनाते हुए पिता बालकराम सिहर उठा।
पचास की उम्र पार कर चुके बालकराम ने 'जागरण' को बताया कि अक्टूबर 1997 को गांव में कीर्तन था। वह वहां चला गया था। रात करीब एक बजे जब घर पहुंचा तो उसकी पुत्रवधू ममता मृत पड़ी थी, जबकि बेटा सूरजपाल घर से गायब था। ममता के शव को श्मशान लेकर चल दिये। तभी खबर मिली कि सूरजपाल की लाश नीम के पेड़ पर लटकी हुई है।
बहू की मौत के बाद उसे इतना जरूर पता चला कि किसी बात को लेकर पति-पत्‍‌नी में कुछ विवाद हुआ था। बहू के पिता ने पुलिस को खबर दे दी। सीओ उसे उठा ले गए थे। आठ दिन बाद छोड़ दिया गया। बाद में उसके पिता ने अदालत के आदेश पर उसकी पत्‍‌नी और मृतक सूरजपाल तथा बेटी श्यामा के खिलाफ रिपोर्ट दर्ज कराई थी। सूरजपाल की मां शीला का कहना था कि जवान बेटे-बहू की मौत वह अभी तक भुला नहीं सकी है।

पुनर्जन्म की बात करने वाला बालक निखिल इस समय मात्र दो साल चार माह का है। वह बल्ह हलके के कुम्मी गांव निवासी दलित समुदाय के भागीरथ का पुत्र है। भागीरथ ने बताया कि निखिल पिछले कई दिन से एक ही रट लगाए हुए है कि वह पिछले जन्म में सुंदरनगर के कांगू कस्बे का रहने वाला था और ब्राह्मण समुदाय से ताल्लुक रखता था। उसकी मौत युवावस्था में ही एक सड़क हादसे में हुई थी। इस हादसे में उसकी बहन भी मौत का ग्रास बन गई थी। मात्र एक साल की उम्र में बोलना शुरू करने वाले निखिल के मुंह से यह बातें सुनकर उसके पिता भागीरथ व माता सुरेंद्रा कुमारी ने पहले विश्वास नहीं किया। सवा वर्ष बाद जब निखिल अपने पिछले घर यानि कांगू हमेशा के लिए जाने की जिद करने लगा तो परिजनों के होश उड़ गए। निखिल की बातों की विश्वसनीयता जांचने के लिए परिजनों ने पहले मंदिरों का सहारा लिया तो वहां भी उसके दावों पर मुहर लगाई गई, जिससे भागीरथ व सुरेंद्रा के दिल की धड़कने बढ़ गई। हर हालात में अपने पूर्व घर जाने पर आमादा दिख रहे निखिल की याददाश्त को भुलाने की परिजन हरसंभव कोशिश कर रहे हैं। मां-बाप इकलौते लाडले को किसी भी सूरत में नहीं खोना चाहते हैं।
भागीरथ का कहना है कि निखिल जब छह माह का था तो गाड़ियों का शोर सुन या गाड़ी देख मां के आंचल में सहम कर जोर-जोर से चिल्लाना शुरू कर देता था। वहीं सुरेंद्रा का कहना है कि वह बेटे के मुंह से पुनर्जन्म की बातें सुनकर तंग आ चुकी है। सुरेंद्रा को यह भी डर है कि निखिल बड़ा होकर सचमुच कहीं कांगू न चला जाए, इसलिए इतने दिनों तक मामले पर पर्दा डाले रखा।
मामले की सत्यता जानने के लिए जब इस पत्रकार ने कांगू के पंचायत उप प्रधान चेतन शर्मा से संपर्क किया तो उन्होंने बताया कि पिछले कुछ वर्ष में विभिन्न सड़क हादसों में ब्राह्मण परिवार के कई युवकों की मौत हुई हैं।
विशेषज्ञ की राय:
-हालांकि पराविज्ञान या धर्म शास्त्र को मानने वाले धार्मिक लोग इस पर पूर्ण विश्वास करते है। क्योंकि ऐसा व्यक्ति पूरे तथ्यों व साक्ष्यों के साथ अपनी बात रखता है जिसे साबित भी किया जाता है, इसलिए इसे नकारा नहीं जा सकता। लेकिन विज्ञान में इसे अब तक किए प्रयोगों में साबित नहीं किया जा सका है। इसे 'मेंटल डिस्आर्डर' भी नहीं कहा जा सकता। विज्ञान की भाषा में इसे 'स्पेशल एबिलिटी' कहा जाता है। जिस तरह से कई लोग अपनी तीव्र मस्तिष्क शक्ति से कई असाध्य कार्य कर देते हैं, उसी तरह से पुनर्जन्म की बात करने वाले लोग भी असाधारण होते है।'

Nearly six decades ago, a 21-year-old Navy fighter pilot on a mission over the Pacific was shot down by Japanese artillery. His name might have been forgotten, were it not for 6-year-old James Leininger. Quite a few people — including those who knew the fighter pilot — think James is the pilot, reincarnated. James' parents, Andrea and Bruce, a highly educated, modern couple, say they are "probably the people least likely to have a scenario like this pop up in their lives." But over time, they have become convinced their little son has had a former life.

From an early age, James would play with nothing else but planes, his parents say. But when he was 2, they said the planes their son loved began to give him regular nightmares. "I'd wake him up and he'd be screaming," Andrea told ABCNEWS' Chris Cuomo. She said when she asked her son what he was dreaming about, he would say, "Airplane crash on fire, little man can't get out."

Reality Check
Andrea says her mom was the first to suggest James was remembering a past life. At first, Andrea says she was doubtful. James was only watching kids' shows, his parents say, and they weren't watching World War II documentaries or conversing about military history. But as time went by, Andrea began to wonder what to believe. In one video of James at age 3, he goes over a plane as if he's doing a preflight check. Another time, Andrea said, she bought him a toy plane, and pointed out what appeared to be a bomb on its underside. She says James corrected her, and told her it was a drop tank. "I'd never heard of a drop tank," she said. "I didn't know what a drop tank was." Then James' violent nightmares got worse, occurring three and four times a week. Andrea's mother suggested she look into the work of counselor and therapist Carol Bowman, who believes that the dead sometimes can be reborn. With guidance from Bowman, they began to encourage James to share his memories — and immediately, Andrea says, the nightmares started become less frequent. James was also becoming more articulate about his apparent past, she said. Bowman said James was at the age when former lives are most easily recalled. "They haven't had the cultural conditioning, the layering over the experience in this life so the memories can percolate up more easily," she said.
Trail of Mysteries
Over time, James' parents say he revealed extraordinary details about the life of a former fighter pilot — mostly at bedtime, when he was drowsy. They say James told them his plane had been hit by the Japanese and crashed. Andrea says James told his father he flew a Corsair, and then told her, "They used to get flat tires all the time." In fact, historians and pilots agree that the plane's tires took a lot of punishment on landing. But that's a fact that could easily be found in books or on television. Andrea says James also told his father the name of the boat he took off from — Natoma — and the name of someone he flew with — "Jack Larson." After some research, Bruce discovered both the Natoma and Jack Larson were real. The Natoma Bay was a small aircraft carrier in the Pacific. And Larson is living in Arkansas. "It was like, holy mackerel," Bruce said. "You could have poured my brains out of my ears. I just couldn't believe it.

James 2 = James M. Huston Jr.?
Bruce became obsessed, searching the Internet, combing through military records and interviewing men who served aboard the Natoma Bay. He said James told him he had been shot down at Iwo Jima. James had also begun signing his crayon drawings "James 3." Bruce soon learned that the only pilot from the squadron killed at Iwo Jima was James M. Huston Jr. Bruce says James also told him his plane had sustained a direct hit on the engine. Ralph Clarbour, a rear gunner on a U.S. airplane that flew off the Natoma Bay, says his plane was right next to one flown by James M. Huston Jr. during a raid near Iwo Jima on March 3, 1945. Clarbour said he saw Huston's plane struck by anti-aircraft fire. "I would say he was hit head on, right in the middle of the engine," he said.


Treasured Mementos
Bruce says he now believes his son had a past life in which he was James M. Huston Jr. "He came back because he wasn't finished with something." The Leiningers wrote a letter to Huston's sister, Anne Barron, about their little boy. And now she believes it as well. "The child was so convincing in coming up with all the things that there is no way on the world he could know," she said. But Professor Paul Kurtz of the State University of New York at Buffalo, who heads an organization that investigates claims of the paranormal, says he thinks the parents are "self-deceived." "They're fascinated by the mysterious and they built up a fairy tale," he said. James' vivid, alleged recollections are starting to fade as he gets older — but among his prized possessions remain two haunting presents sent to him by Barron: a bust of George Washington and a model of a Corsair aircraft. They were among the personal effects of James Huston sent home after the war. "He appears to have experienced something that I don't think is unique, but the way it's been revealed is quite astounding," Bruce said. Asked if the idea that James may have been someone else changes his or his wife's feeling about their son, Bruce said: "It doesn't change how we think. I don't look at him and say, 'That's not my boy.' That's my boy."

इसराइल की एक घार्मिक अदालत ने एक कुत्ते को मौत की सज़ा सुनाई है.कुत्ते को ये सज़ा इसीलिए दी गई है क्योंकि अदालत को लगा कि एक धर्मनिरपेक्ष वकील ने कुत्ते की शक्ल में पुनर्जन्म ले लिया है.इस वकील ने दो दशक पहले एक मुक़दमे की पैरवी के दौरान जजों की तौहीन की थी.हुआ ये कि जब कुत्ता अदालत की परिसर में घुसने की कोशिश कर रहा था तो वहाँ मौजूद एक जज को सालों पहले की एक घटना याद आ गई जब एक अन्य जज ने बदतमीज़ वकील को श्राप दिया था कि वो कुत्ते के रूप में पुनर्जन्म लेगा.वकील को लगा कि कुत्ते में उसी श्राप दिए हुए वकील की रूह है और उसने उसे गिरफ़्तार करवा कर सज़ा सुना दी.यहूदी धर्म में कुत्ते को नापाक माना जाता है. अदालत ने हालांकि कुत्ते को संगसार की सज़ा - यानि तबतक पत्थर से मारते रहना जबतक उसकी मौत न हो जाए; सुनाई थी लेकिन वहाँ से कुत्ता किसी तरह से भाग खड़ा हुआ.

कम से कम हमारे देश में कथिक प्रबुद्ध विचारकों को इस बात से अवश्य आश्चर्य होगा यदि कोई अमेरिकी पत्रकार विश्व विख्यात अंतर्राष्ट्रीय पत्रिका ‘न्यूजवीक ‘, ( अगस्त 24 व 31, 2009) में टिप्पणी लिखे कि अमेरिका एक ईसाई राष्ट्र नहीं रहा है। सेमिटिक धर्मों की गलाकाट प्रतिद्वंदिता व अपनी-अपनी श्रेष्ठता-ग्रंथि के बावजूद आज अनेक चिंतक व विचारक आर्नाल्ड टायनबी की उस अवधारणा में विश्वास करने लगे हैं जिनमें उन्होंने कहा था कि विश्व भविष्य हिन्दू-बौद्ध अवस्थाओं की वापसी द्वारा ही निर्णीत होगा जो एक बड़ी संभावना है।
लिजा मिलर नामक लेखिका ने अपनी उपर्युक्त टिप्पणी में कहा है कि यद्यपि यह सच है कि अमेरिकी राष्ट्र की नींव ईसामसीह के अनुयाइयों द्वारा रखी गई थी और आज भी हर अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति यह बात दोहराता है कि चर्च अमेरिकी प्रजातंत्र की आत्मा है पर आस्थाओं के सहअस्तित्व, बहुसंस्कृतिवाद और बहुलतावादी समावेशी दृष्टि मान हिन्दु धर्म की छत्रछाया में ही पनप सकती है। लिजा मिलर ने सन 2008 में किए गए एक सर्वेक्षण को उध्दृत करते हुए लिखा है कि अब मात्र 76 प्रतिशत अमेरिकी हीं अपनी पहचान को ईसाई बताकर ईसाई इंगित करते हैं। यद्यपि बहुसंख्यक अभी भी अपने को हिंदु, मुस्लिम या यहुदी राष्ट्र से जोड़ना नहीं चाहेंगे पर जो हवा आज अमेरिका में बह रही है उसमें हिंदु आस्था के अनेक आयाम जैसे योग, ध्यान, शाकाहार, अहिंसा, भक्ति एवं उत्सवी संस्कृति अधिकाधिक रूप से स्वीकार्य है।
आज 10 लाख से अधिक संयुक्त राज्य अमेरिका में हिंदू रहते है और कभी भारत के भीतर वे यद्यपि हीनता-ग्रंथि या संशय के कभी-कभी शिकार हो सकते हैं पर अमेरिका में रहने वाले हिंदू, अंतर्विरोधों के बावजूद, अधिक समान्नित, जाग्रत और अपने अतित व परंपराओं का आदर करते हैं


लिजा मिलर के अनुसार, अब अमेरिकी यह विचार कि वे ही धार्मिक रूप से श्रेष्ठ हैं, छोड़ना चाहते हैं। सन 2008 को ‘पिव फोरम’ के सर्वेक्षण के अनुसार 65 प्रतिशत अमेरिकी विश्वास करने लगें हैं कि ‘कई धर्मों के विश्वास की बातों में शाश्वत जीवन के रहस्य छिपे हैं जिनमें 37 प्रतिशत वे लोग जो श्वेत इवेंजिलिक्स वर्ग में आते हैं। चर्च के बाहर के विश्वासों में मुक्ति-मार्ग की खोज अब अधिकाधिक लोग कर रहे हैं

अधिक महत्वपूर्ण प्रश्न है कि मृत्यु के बाद क्या होता है? सामान्यरुप से ईसाइयों का विश्वास है कि शरीर और आत्मा दोनों पवित्र हैं क्योंकि जीवों को पुनरुत्थान के समय वे पुनः जीवित होंगे। हिंदू इनमें विश्वास नहीं करते हैं और इसलिए मृत शरीर को चिता में जलाते हैं क्योंकि आत्मा मुक्त हो जाती है या पुनर्जन्म होता है। ‘क्रिमेशन एसोसिएशन ऑफ नार्थ अमेरिका’ के अनुसार आज एक तिहाई अमेरिकी मृतदेह का दाहकार्य करने का विकल्प चुनते हैं जब कि 1975 में यह मात्र 6 प्रतिशत था।

वाशिंगटन स्थित शोध संगठन 'प्यू रिसर्च सेंटर' द्वारा कराए गए सर्वेक्षण से यह तथ्य उजागर हुआ है। सर्वेक्षण के अनुसार 24 फीसदी वयस्क जहां पुनर्जन्म और योग में यकीन रखते हैं वहीं कुल जनसंख्या के एक चौथाई वयस्कों ने बताया कि वे ज्योतिष और पूर्वी धर्मो में विश्वास रखते हैं।

प्रतिष्ठित पत्रिका 'न्यूजवीक' ने 'हम सब अब हिंदू हैं' नामक शीर्षक से एक लेख प्रकाशित किया है, जिसमें कहा गया है कि अब अमेरिकी जनता ईश्वर और जीवन को हिंदू पद्धति के अनुसार देखने लगी है।

'यूनिवर्सल सोसाइटी ऑफ हिंदुइज्म' के अध्यक्ष राजन जेद ने 'प्यू रिसर्च सेंटर' के सर्वेक्षण का स्वागत किया है। उन्होंने कहा कि धर्म जीवन का सबसे जटिल घटक होता है। राजन ने कहा कि हम सभी सत्य की खोज में जुटे रहते हैं और इसके लिए हम सभी मिलकर काम कर सकते हैं। उन्होंने कहा, "हम सभी अनेकता में एकता चाहते हैं।"

उल्लेखनीय है कि योग, पुनर्जन्म और ज्योतिष हिंदू दर्शन का हिस्सा है।

आधुनिक विज्ञान के अनुसार पुनर्जन्म का संबंध टेलीपेथी या मानवशास्त्र से हो सकता है। विद्यार्थी टेस्ट बुक के रूप में इंट्रोडक्शन टु साइकोलॉजी का अध्ययन करते हैं, उसके लेखक रिचर्ड अटिकिंसन कहते हैं- पेरासाइकोलॉजी विषय में जजो शोध हो रहे हैं, इस बारे में हमें बहुत सी शंकाएँ हैं। पर हाल ही में टेलिपेथी के संबंध में जो शोध हुए हैं, वे हमें विवश करते हैं कि हम उसे स्वीकार लें। पुनर्जन्म और टेलिपेथी पर किताब लिखने वाले डॉ. डीन रेडिन एक बहुत ही महत्वपूर्ण बात कहते हैं- इस प्रकार की घटनाओं के जितने सुबूत पेश किए गए हैं, उतने सुबूत यदि किसी अन्य विषय पर पेश किए होते, तो वैज्ञानिक कब का इसे स्वीकार चुके होते। यही विज्ञान और धर्म के बीच संघर्ष का जन्म होता है।

आज देश ही नहीं, बल्कि विश्व के कई वैज्ञानिक बड़ी उलझन में हैं। वहीं बहुत सारी धार्मिक मान्यताओं में से एक मान्यता अब वैज्ञानिक आधार प्राप्त करने लगी है। ये धार्मिक मान्यता है, पुनर्जन्म की। टीवी पर प्रसारित राज पिछले जन्म का दिनों-दिन लोकप्रिय हो रहा है। इससे लोग अपने पुनर्जन्म की घटनाओं को जानने की चाहत बढ़ गई है। वैज्ञानिक अब तो इसे पूरी तरह से नकार रहे थे, इसके लिए उनके पास तमाम दावे भी थे। पर अब वे नर्वस नजर आ रहे हैं, क्योंकि अपने ही पुराने आधारों के कारण वे पुनर्जन्म को स्वीकारने के लिए तैयार नहीं है, वही नई वैज्ञानिक शोधो को वे नकार नहीं पा रहे हैं, इसलिए वे इस पर कुछ बोलना भी नहीं चाहते।

हिंदू मान्यताओं के मुताबिक पुनर्जन्म होता है लेकिन कोई भी व्यक्ति मरने के तुरंत बाद ही दूसरा जन्म ले यह संभव नहीं है। अगर हिंदू मान्यताओं पर विश्वास किया जाए तो मृत्यु के बाद आत्मा इस वायु मंडल में ही चलायमान होती है। स्वर्ग-नर्क जैसे स्थानों पर घूमती है।
लेकिन उसे एक न एक दिन शरीर जरूर लेना पड़ता है। ज्योतिष शास्त्र इस बात को ज्यादा मजबूती से रखता है। धर्म में जिसे प्रारब्ध कहा जाता है, यानी पूर्व कर्मों का फल, वह ज्योतिष का ही एक हिस्सा है। इसलिए ज्योतिष की लगभग सारी विधाएं ही पुनर्जन्म को स्वीकार करती हैं। इस विद्या का मानना है कि हम अपने जीवन में जो भी कर्म करते हैं उनमें से कुछ का फल तो जीवन के दौरान ही मिल जाता है और कुछ हमारे प्रारब्ध से जुड़ जाता है। इन्हीं कर्मों के फल के मुताबिक जब ब्रह्मांड में ग्रह दशाएं बनती हैं, तब वह आत्मा फिर से जन्म लेती है। इस प्रक्रिया में कई साल भी लग सकते हैं और कई दशक भी।


मुंबई की एक महिला बासंती भायाणी अपने परिवार में हुई पुनर्जन्म की एक घटना 8 सितम्बर 2004 के एक गुजराती अखबार में प्रकाशित हुई है। इस घटना में जूनागढ़ की एक ब्राह्मण कन्या गीता का जन्म भावनगर के एक जैन परिवार में राजुल के रूप में हुआ। राजुल जब अपने पिछले जन्म को याद करने लगी, तो उसे जूनागढ़ ले जाया गया, यहाँ उसने अपना घर, स्वजन ही नहीं, बल्कि अपनी गुडिया तक को पहचान लिया। जब राजुल की शादी हुई, तब उसके पूर्वजन्म के परिजनों ने उसे बहुत सारा दहेज भी दिया। आज राजुल अहमदाबाद में अपने छोटे से परिवार में रहती है।

पुनर्जन्म और पूर्वजन्म विषय पर अमेरिका में इयान स्टीवंस ने जिस तरह से शोध किया है, ठीक उसी प्रकार का शोध भारत में डॉ. सतवंत पसरिया ने भी किया है। बेंगलोर की 'नेशनल इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ मेंटल हेल्थ एंड न्यूरो साइंसीजÓ में क्लिनिकल साइकोलॉजिस्ट के रूप में कार्यरत डॉ. सतवंत ने ईस्वी सन् १९७३ से लेकर अभी तक भारत में प्रकाश में आई पुनर्जन्म के करीब ५०० घटनाओं का संकलन किया है। इसे एक पुस्तक का आकार दिया गया है, जिसका नाम है 'क्लेम्स ऑफ रिइंकार्नेशन: एम्पिरिकल स्टी ऑफ केसेज इन इंडियाÓ। उल्लेखनीय है कि बेंगलोर की ये महिला वैज्ञानिक ने अपने शोध के लिए अमेरिका की वर्जिनिया यूनिवर्सिटी के वैज्ञानिक प्रो. इयान स्टिवेंस के साथ ही काम किया है। इस किताब की प्रस्तावना भी प्रो. स्टिवेंस ने ही लिखी है। वे कहते हैं कि जो इस तरह के किस्सों को पहली बार पढ़ रहे होंगे, उनके लिए इसमें शामिल घटनाओं को सच मानने में बहुत मुश्किल होगी, इसके बाद भी पाठक यह विश्वास रखें कि इस पुस्तक में जो भी घटनाएँ शामिल की गई हैं, वे सभी काफी सावधानीपूर्वक और प्रामाणिकता के साथ लिखी गई हैं।

अपने दो पूर्व जन्मों की पूरी याद

यह घटना मध्प्रदेश के टीकमग$ढ जिले की है जहां १९४८ में एक जिला शिक्षा अधिकारी के यहां एक ल$डकी ने जन्म लिया जिसका नाम स्वर्णलता मिश्र रखा गया। जब बच्ची सा$ढे तीन साल की हुई तो उसने कहना शुरू कर दिया कि मेरा घर कटनी में है जहां मेरे माता पिता और चार भाई रहते हैं। तुम लोग मुझे वहां जाने दो। उसने अपने पूर्व जन्म के पिता जो कटनी के एक प्रतिष्ठित जमींदार थे, और भाइयों के नाम, मकान का पता जो कटनी रेलवे स्टेशन के सामने है, की पूरी पहचान और भाइयों के नाम भी बताये। उसने अपना पहले का नाम विद्या पाठक बताया और कहा कि उसकी शादी मैहर में पांडेय परिवार में हुई थी जहां उसके दो बेटे और एक बेटी रहती हैं तथा उनके नाम भी बताये। उसने यह भी बताया कि उसकी मृत्यु ३१ वर्ष की आयु में हृदयाघात से हुई थी। बेटी की परत-दर-परत पुनर्जन्म की स्मृतियों को सुनकर पिता चकित रह गये। उन्होंने निश्चय कर लिया कि वह इन सब की सत्यता की पुष्टि करेंगे। समय निकाल कर बच्ची के पिता कटनी जा पहुंचे और खोजबीन की तो आश्चर्य चकित रह गये। बेटी द्वारा बताई गई सारी बातें अक्षरश: सच निकली। ऐसा ही मेैर में भी हुआ जहां उसके पूर्व जन्म के ससुरालीजन रहते थे। तब उन्हें स्वीकार करना प$डा कि यह सचमुच ही पुनर्जन्म का मामला है। यह सोच कर कि इन सब बातों को लेकर अफवाहों का दौर चल प$डेगा, इसलिये उन्होंने इस मामले को सख्ती से दबा दिया और परिजनों से इस संबंध में किसी भी प्रकार की चर्चा करने से मनाही कर दी। जब बच्ची छतरपुर में जहां उसके पिता का तबादला हो गया था, पाठशाला प$ढने के लिये जाने लगी तो वहां अपनी सहपठियों को अपनी पूर्व जन्म की बातें बतलाने लगी। यह बात धीरे-धीरे पूरे शहर में फैल गई तो लोग इस अद्भुत बालिका को ब$डी उत्सुकता से देखने आने लगे। जब तत्कालीन मुख्यमंत्री पø द्वारिका प्रसाद मिश्र छतरपुर आये तो उन्होंने भी यह बात सुनी और बच्ची के घर पहुंच गये। उन्होने स्वर्णलता से मुलाकात की और कई सवाल किये जिस से वह संतुष्ट हुए। तब मुख्यमंत्री ने राजस्थान के परामनोवैज्ञानिक डाø एचø बनर्जी को परीक्षण हेतु भेजा। जांच के बाद डाø बनर्जी ने बताया कि यह पुर्नजन्म की सत्य घटना है और इस का कारण दिमाग में अतिरिक्त याददाश्त है जो धीरे-धीरे विस्मृत हो जायेगी। जब कटनी में स्वर्णलता के पूर्व जन्म के रिश्तेदारों ने सुना तो इसको मनग$ढंत माना लेकिन सही घटना को कब तक नकारते। सच्चाई जानने के लिये बच्ची का एक भाई छतरपुर अपनी पहचान छिपा कर उसके घर जा पहुंचा। उसने बच्ची के पिता से कहा कि वह इलाहाबाद से आया है और स्वर्णलता से मिलना चाहता है। उसी समय बच्ची जो मन्दिर गई हुई थी, वापस घर आई और मेहमान को देखकर चौंक उठी और प्रसन्न हो कर बोली- अरे बाबू , तुम कब आये। जब पिता ने कहा कि तुम इन्हें कैसे जानती हो, ये तो इलाहाबाद से आये हैं। स्वर्णलता ने कहा कि नहीं ये कटनी से आये हैं और मेरे ब$डे भाई बाबू हैं। यह सुनकर बाबू ने जिसका नाम हरिहर प्रसाद था, बहिन के पांव छू लिये और सच को स्वीकार किया। बच्ची ने भाई से समस्त परिवार वालों का हालचाल पूछा तथा कई ऐसी बातें भी पूछी जिन को केवल वह और हरि हर प्रसाद ही जानते थे। सब बातों को सुनकर उस को पूर्ण विश्वास हो गया कि स्वर्णलता उनके पूर्व जन्म की बहिन विद्या ही है। कुछ समय बाद जब पिता उसको लेकर कटनी गये तो स्वर्णलता ने अपने आप अपना घर ढूंढ लिया जबकि उससे पहले वह वहां कभी नहीं गई थी। वहां उसने अपने पिता तथा पूर्व जन्म के अन्य तीनों भाइयों को पहचान लिया। वह जैसे इनको भी पूर्वजन्म में संबोधित करती थी, ठीक वैसे ही किया जिसे देखकर सब को पूर्ण विश्वास हो गया कि विद्या ने ही स्वर्णलता के रूप में पुनर्जन्म लिया है। उसने अपने भाइयों से मैहर का हालचाल भी पूछा जहां उसकी पूर्वजन्म की ससुराल थी। वहां का कुशल क्षेम जान कर वह ब$डी प्रसन्न हुई और मैहर जाने की जिद करने लगी। उस समय न ले जाकर बाद में पिता उसको मैहर ले गये। वहां भी उसने अपने पूर्व जन्म के पति को तीनों बेटे-बेटियों को पहचान लिया। उसने तीनों बच्चों को मां के समान प्यार किया। वे लोग भी उसको देखकर बहुत ही खुश हुए। एक दिन जब स्वर्णलता ५ साल की थी तो वह असमिया भाषा में गाना गाने लगी और असमिया बोली बोलने लगी। पिता के पूछने पर उसने बताया कि उसका एक जन्म तो कटनी में हुआ था तथा एक जन्म आसाम के सिलहठ में हुआ। तब मेरा नाम कमलेश गोस्वामी था तथा मैं चार भाई बहनों में सबसे ब$डी थी। उसने उस जन्म के मां बाप के नाम भी बताये और कहा कि तब उसकी मृत्यु ८ साल की आयु में कार दुर्घटना में हो गई थी जब वह शाला जा रही थी। बच्ची को आसाम की बोली, गीत एवं नृत्य आते थे जो गुजरते वक्त के साथ धुंधले होते चले गये लेकिन दूसरे जन्म की यादें रह गई थी और वह उस जन्म के स्वजनों से मिलने के लिये बेताब रहने लगी परन्तु वह क्षेत्र देश के बंटवारे के साथ पूर्वी पाकिस्तान अब बंगला देश में चला गया जिस से उन लोगों से मिलना नहीं हो सका। स्वर्णलता प$ढने में बहुत होशियार थी। उसकी बुद्वि तीव्र थी। उसने एम. एस. सी वनस्पति शास्त्र में किया और पर्यावरण एवं प्रदूषण में पी. एच. डी. कर के वनस्पति शास्त्र की प्राध्यापिका हो गई। वह भाग्यवान भी थी। उसकी शादी एक उच्च अधिकारी से हो गई जो बाद में जिलाधीश हो गये। उसके दो बेटे हो गये और सुखी वैवाहिक जीवन मिला। स्वर्णलता के केस की जांच वर्जीनिया विश्वविद्यालय यू. एस. ए. के परामनोचिकित्सा विभाग के संचालक प्रोø डाø इवान स्टीवेंसन ने की जिन्होंने विश्व में विभिन्न क्षेत्रों में पूर्वजन्म की लगभग ६० घटनाएं एकत्र की हैं। उन्होंने स्वर्णलता के पहले जन्म के बारे में पूरी छानबीन की और सही पाया। इन घटनाओं से एक बात स्पष्ट होती है कि ल$डकी सदा ल$डकी पैदा होती है और ल$डका ल$डका ही जन्म लेता है। स्वर्णलता तीनों जन्मों में ल$डकी पैदा हुई और उच्च ब्राहमण कुल में जन्मी। उसका पहला जन्म कटनी म. प्र. के प्रतिष्ठित पाठक परिवार में हुआ, दूसरा जन्म सिलहर आसम के प्रतिष्ठित गोस्वामी परिवार में हुआ और तीसरा वर्तमान जन्म टीकमग$ढ म. प्र. जिला के प्रतिष्ठित मिश्र परिवार में हुआ। यह निश्चित नहीं है कि स्वर्णलता का आसाम वाले परिवार से जिस से मिलने को वह ब$डी बेताब रहती थी, संपर्क हुआ या नहीं। पूर्व जन्मों की यादें उन लोगों को रहती हैं जिन की मृत्यु किसी उत्तेजनात्मक आवेशग्रस्त मन:स्थिति में हुई है जैसे दुर्घटना, हत्या, आत्महत्या, प्रतिशोध, कातरता, मोहग्रस्तता आदि। ऐसे विक्षुब्ध घटनाक्रम प्राणी की चेतना पर गहरा प्रभाव डालते हैं और वे उद्वेग नये जन्म में भी स्मृति पटल पर उभरते रहते हैं। अधिक प्यार या अधिक द्वेष जिन से रहा हो, वे लोग विशेष रूप से याद आते हैं। भय, आशंका, अभिरूचि, बुद्घिमता, कला कौशल आदि की भी पिछली छाप बनी रहती है। आकृति की बनावट और शरीर पर जहां तहां पाये जाने वाले विशेष चिन्ह भी अगले जन्म में उसी प्रकार पाये जाते हैं।

SWARNLATA MISHRA (Reincarnation in India )

One of the most famous of case studies is that of Swarnlata Mishra. She was born to an intellectual and prosperous family in Pradesh in India 1948. When she was just three years old and travelling with her father past the town of Katni more than 100 miles from her home, she suddenly pointed and asked the driver to turn down a road to "my house", and suggested they could get a better cup of tea there than they could on the road.
Soon after, she related more details of her life in Katni, all of which were written down by her father. She said her name was Biya Pathak, and that she had two sons. She gave details of the house: it was white with black doors fitted with iron bars; four rooms were stuccoed, but other parts were less finished; the front floor was of stone slabs. She located the house in Zhurkutia, a district of Katni; behind the house was a girl's school, in front was a railway line, and lime furnaces were visible from the house. She added that the family had a motor car (a very rare item in India in the 1950's, and especially before Swarnlata was born). Swarnlata said Biya died of a "pain in her throat", and was treated by Dr. S. C. Bhabrat in Jabalpur. She also remembered an incident at a wedding when she and a friend had difficulty finding a latrine.
In the spring of 1959, when Swarnlata was 10 years old, news of the case reached Professor Sri H. N. Banerjee, an Indian researcher of paranormal phenomenon and colleague of Stevenson. Banerjee took the notes her father made and traveled to Katni to determine if Swarnlata's memories could be verified. Using nothing more than the description that Swarnlata had given, he found the house, despite the house having been enlarged and improved since 1939 when Biya died. It belonged to the Pathak's (a common name in India), a wealthy, prominent family, with extensive business interests. The lime furnaces were on land adjoining the property; the girls school was 100 yards behind the Pathak's property, but not visible from the front.
He interviewed the family and verified everything Swarnlata had said. Biya Pathak had died in 1939 leaving behind a grieving husband, two young sons, and many younger brothers. These Pathaks had never heard of the Mishra family, who lived a hundred miles away; the Mishra's had no knowledge of the Pathak family.
In the summer of 1959, Biya's husband, son, and eldest brother journeyed to the town of Chhatarpur, the town where Swarnlata now lived, to test Swarnlata's memory. They did not reveal their identities or purpose to others in the town, but enlisted nine townsmen to accompany them to the Mishar home, where they arrived unannounced.
Swarnlata immediately recognized her brother and called him "Babu", Biya's pet name for him. Stevenson gives only the barest facts, but I can imagine the emotions ran high at this point. Imagine how Babu felt to be recognized immediately by his dead sister reborn. Ten-year-old Swarnlata went around the room looking at each man in turn; some she identified as men she knew from her town, some were strangers to her. Then she came to Sri Chintamini Pandey, Biya's husband. Swarnlata lowered her eyes, looked bashful as Hindu wives do in the presence of their husbands and spoke his name. Stevenson says nothing of Sri Pandey's reaction at finding his wife after twenty years.
Swarnlata also correctly identified her son from her past life, Murli, who was 13 years old when Biya died. But Murli schemed to mislead her, and "for almost twenty-four hours insisted against her objections that he was not Murli, but someone else." Murli had also brought along a friend and tried to mislead Swarnlata once again by insisting he was Naresh, Biya's other son, who was about the same age as this friend. Swarnlata insisted just as strongly that he was a stranger. Finally, Swarnlata reminded Sri Pandey that he had stolen 1200 rupees Biya kept in a box. Sri Pandey admitted to the truth of this private fact that only he and his wife had known.
A few weeks later, Swarnlata's father took her to Katni to visit the home and town where Biya lived and died. Upon arriving she immediately noticed and remarked about the changes to the house. She asked about the parapet at the back of the house, a veranda, and the neem tree that used to grow in the compound; all had been removed since Biya's death. She identified Biya's room and the room in which she had died. She recognized one of Biya's brothers and correctly identified him as her second brother. She did the same for her third and fourth brother, the wife of the younger brother, the son of the second brother calling him by his pet name Baboo. Later Swarnlata was presented to a room full of strangers and asked whom she recognized. She correctly picked out her husband's cousin, the wife of Biya's brother-in-law, and a midwife whom she identified not by her current name, but by a name she had used when Biya was alive.
Biya's son Murli, in another test, introduced Swarnlata to a man he called a new friend, Bhola. Swarnlata insisted correctly that this man was actually Biya's second son, Naresh. In another test, Biya's youngest brother tried to trap Swarnlata by saying that Biya had lost her teeth; Swarnlata did not fall for this, and went on to say that Biya had gold fillings in her front teeth a fact that the brothers had forgotten and were forced to confirm by consulting with their wives, who reminded them that what Swarnlata said was true.
Biyas dialect was distinctly different than that of the Pradesh�s and remarkably similar to the Pathaks. She was familiar with intimate names and family secrets, and remembered even marriage relationships, old servants, and friends. It was as if, her memory was frozen at the time of Biya's death; Swarnlata knew nothing about the Pathak family that had happened since 1939.
In the following years, Swarnlata visited the Pathak family at regular intervals. Stevenson investigated the case in 1961, witnessing one of these visits. He observed the loving relationship between Swarnlata and the other members of the family. They all accepted her as Biya reborn. Swarnlata behaved appropriately reserved towards Biya's elders, but when alone with Biya's sons, she was relaxed and playful as a mother would be, behavior that would otherwise be totally inappropriate in India for a 10-year-old girl in the company of unrelated men in their mid-thirties.
The Pathak brothers and Swarnlata observed the Hindu custom of Rakhi, in which brothers and sisters annually renew their devotion to each other by exchanging gifts. In fact the Pathak brothers were distressed and angry one year when Swarnlata missed the ceremony; they felt that because she had lived with them for 40 years and with the Mishras for only 10 years that they had a greater claim on her. As evidence of how strongly the Pathaks believed that Swarnlata was their Biya, they admitted that they had changed their views of reincarnation upon meeting Swarnlata and accepting her as Biya reborn (the Pathaks, because of their status and wealth, emulated Western ideas and had not believed in reincarnation before this happened). Swarnlata's father, Sri Mishra, also accepted the truth of Swarnlata's past identity: years later, when it came time for Swarnlata to marry he consulted with the Pathaks about the choice of a husband for her.
Stevenson visited her in later years and corresponded with her for ten years after this case was investigated. He reports that she grew up normally, received an advanced degree in botany, and got married. She said that sometimes, when she reminisced about her happy life in Katni, her eyes brimmed with tears and, for a moment, she wished she could return to the wealth and life of Biya. But her loyalty to the Mishra family was undivided and, except for the regular visits to Katni, she went about the business of growing into a beautiful young woman, accepting fully her station in this life.

Currently Swarnlata Mishra is in Bhopal and retired as Principal (A Botaniest) from a Government College and was married to an IAS officer.
